There were any number of hilarious moments that countered the profoundly sad moments. I was concerned about how they would handle Captain Marvel because she is very powerful. I was really happy with her scenes as well as the one in which the Scarlett Witch showed up in super pissed off mode. I also stood up and cheered when Captain America wielded Mjolnir. The scene where EVERYBODY showed up via mystic portals was uber nerd paradise.
I was a bit underwhelmed with how they handled Thor early on in the movie. While it was very funny, it was disappointing to see that he had let himself fall apart in an alcoholic stupor. I feel that his obligation to Odin to take care of people would have forced him to devote himself to that responsibility.
Now for the off, when I saw Black Widow and Hawkeye heading off to get the soulstone, I figured that was the end of Hawkeye. I never saw Black Widow dying as an even remote possibility but it does make a bit of sense. I was still sad to see her go.
In retrospect, Tony Stark's sacrifice was foreshadowed heavilly in the scene where he cracked the time travel problem. He told Pepper that he could just throw it all away and live his life. He had to be true to his character's own purpose and be the hero. When he was dying, you could hear several people crying. loudly.
We are going to see it again tomorrow. Well done Marvel. You really went for the head with great success.
